Enigma of the Axial: secularists and religious traditionalists are both confused about the history/evolution of religion

One reason that rationalist critique of Islam (and xtianity) fails is the inability of secularists to grapple with the complexity of religion. I hope these studies of the Axial Age can help to found a new and more robust secularism.
Islam stands in the shadow of the Axial Age.
For myself, I tend to follow the views (to the extent that I can access them) of the late sufi ‘pope’ Idries Shah who, in the final analysis, was critical, if not contemptuous of Islam.
