The issue of growth is also one of our conscious choices about a future threatened by climate catastrophe: we should stop figuring what the monster economy will do and try to assess how we as free agents will take control of the situation, especially with respect to ‘growth’ which is a threat to our real future. We need to recreate the effect of the modern economic/technological revolution in a new context, one in which direct the economic system to both fairness, equalization, and post-growth. We cannot expect the random workings of capitalism to do this for us.
Our phones get more powerful and our TVs bigger, but those improvements aren’t showing up economically. Is this permanent?
