R48G: a response to the Alan Wood article…

I really doubt that history will allow a second wave of marxist core theory for the creation of a new society. No matter how much marxists stamp their feet the general public will demur and hand victory to the capitalists. That’s life: the mechanization of thought comes to dominate the realization in practice and even a very simple recasting of the material can lead to a creative renewal and a new and younger audience.
We have made a long list of suggestions, here are a few:

dialectical materialism is a pile of crap and should be sidelined as an historical study with reference to its sources in figures like Hegel, Indic Samkhya. J.G. Bennett is the latest failure here, no doubt, but his work shows the real scale (and history) of such attempts. Diamat is a sick joke of second rate minds…If it is ‘material dialectic’ you want there are better ways to do that…
Dialectic confuses dyadic and triadic systems (who isn’t confused here) and the result is a useless mess. Marxist literature after trying to extricate itself from Hegel ended up with still another set of confusions…Trying to claim dialectics anticipates chaos theory is a non-starter, bullshit.

historical materialism fails as a theory and its claims for science while they might have convinced an earlier generation in the wake of the nineteenth century have in reality been attacked so many times they are no longer viable…

We have suggested moving without theory using general historical frameworks of empirical chronology. Moral: you can’t repropose without modification a theory that literally hundreds of critics have challenged. Nobody will listen…and given the evidence of stalinism the status of the subject is checkmate…

A new praxis needs to be based on ‘free agency’ whatever the case with free will. Much of that actually accompanied marxism in school of Kantian ethical socialists…Historical materialism has totally confused the discussion here…

A serious praxis needs to detach communism from its marxist monopoly and consider the subject as a evolutionary/revolutionary task of free agents trying to create a constitutional refoundation. It is not a question of stages or epochs of history but of the right realization of democracy in the wake of the failures of liberalism.

This approach is so much simpler and practical and leaves one to wonder why such a ponderous theory overcame marxism…
