We have proposed a new kind of leftist theatre of the future that can revive the genre of blank verse tragedy…this will be the work of individuals in the context of a common public domain plot pool.

individual authors can copyright their own versions but the basic plot is in the Commons…the bootstrap sequence from prose dramas to Gorboduc blank verse to Marlowe/early Shakespeare blank verse and then may something that is closer to the style of the early tragedies (hamlet level is too far beyond further human repetition)…

But first there is a need for a new kind of ‘plot pool’ that can explore the foundations of the tragic genre and created a series of plots that echo also the american milieu…

Our idea for a tragedy of a fourth richard takes place in Times Square as climate change is about to submerge New York…and is about an ambitious capitalist who is trying to take over the government via a series of operations to be specified in the play…

A whole series of versions might bootstrap a few plots here…the question of blank verse is not as hard as it looks…Create the medium and the poets will come…

Interviewed on Radio 4’s Today programme in July, Tom Stoppard admitted he was stuck for what to write next.
