R48G: a larger revolutionary class in pursuit of postcapitalism///The Epic Failure of Labor Leadership in the United States, 1980-2017 and Continuing

The reasons for the erosion of the labor union movement are complex but at this point it might help to adopt a new start with a new redefinition of the class basis, or bases, for the left:

we have tried this with our ideas of the universal class which is a superset of the working class. In fact this approach might well be a better way to support the working class because if focuses on the transformation of society along an overall spectrum of issues rather than the older focus on the working class. The question of the working class thus becomes very simple: to provide a clear populist economics that can apply to all sectors and attack the issues of exploitation in a general field of classes making up and entering the ‘universal class’. A system that offers employment/basic income, medical and educational guarantees, housing as a fundamental right, and an overall solution to the totality of the ‘social question’ would resolve the perplexity of the working class enigma.
