Our discussion of the Red Forty-eight Group and of neo-communism is part of this revival of the study of Marx (and Engels)

but at one and the same time we have insisted on a critical review of marxism and such and we can’t completely absolve Marx from the confused outcome of bolshevism given the way in which liberalism and communism became polarized. Our model of ‘democratic market neo-communism’ attempts to recast the whole question and to free discussion from the confusions of Capital with its brilliant insights and confusion of theory….

For the last 60 years Marx, communism, and socialism have gotten a pretty bad rap across the West. Marx has been seen as an apologist for the kinds of imperialism, genocide, and repression in communist countries over the last 100 years, even though The Communist Manifesto provided a synthesis of the revolutionary European thought of 1848— not a blueprint for totalitarianism.
