The left needs a revised platform in which the strict progression of so-called economic epochs yields to a portrait of free agents able to craft a (postcaapitalist) economy on the basis of ‘first principles’, most probably axioms of fairness, i.e. a communist core built around a hybrid economy with markets, planning and a Commons that stands beyond private property…

We are stuck in a mindset that considers we are subject to an economic fate in a system that is turning out to be a trap: we must abandon deterministic theories and activate our free agency: there is not binding law of history that demands economic subjection. We can voluntarily choose to change the economic momentum that binds us but not absolutely…The system left to itself will proceed to self-destruct.
