I fail to see anything active on the left…

Two Manifestos
We have a tragedy in the fatal nosedive of the american system, but we seem to have another in the inability of the left to organize any kind of protest or opposition. The mystery that is no mystery haunts a system that is proceeding toward destruction in a context of activist passivity. It is not really much of a puzzle. The older left is too set in its ways and very far from being any kind of threat to the system as it is. And older perspectives are no longer adequate to the crisis at had. Trying to champion working class wage increases via a growing economy ignores the unprecedented situation where growth itself is the problem. And the working class is completely lacking in any kind of radical consciousness as the right closes in on psychological manipulation. After a century of madison avenue, who could be surprised.
I think despair is premature: the older left is fading away to make room for a new form of revolutionary action. We are drifting into a radical novelty with serendipitous effect. The whole game is stalled because it is only now sinking in that the left is a problem next to the problem of the ‘status quo’
