Natural selection to explain, reason, consciousness, free will???…//Is the term Darwinism a “scientific slur”? | Uncommon Descent

Miller’s confusions are so numerous one hardly knows where to start. To say using ‘darwinism’ as a term is a slur makes no sense.
If ever there was an ism associated with an and ideology it would be darwinism.
Our discussions of marxism, however, make a similar claim, i.e. that a new upgrade of marxism should not use the founder’s name for an ‘ism’.
The case with darwinism is not really the same: darwinism and evolution should be distinguished, the first based on natural selection, the second a more general concept with various theories.
Miller’s new book, which i haven’t read, seems to take the natural selection muddle to new extremes as the explanation for reason, consciousness and free will.
One might ask for the evidence for this. Please, otherwise the thesis is darwinian gibberish.

Darwinian Ken Miller is promoting his new book, The Human Instinct: How We Evolved to Have Reason, Consciousness, and Free Will. In a guest column at Scientific American, he claims that the use of the term “Darwinism” is a slur against science:
