an eloquent argument, and yet…
The ultimate driver here was nineteenth century revolutionism and marxism/the second international: we need to aim higher than a ‘mere’ new deal. But the problem is that with the rise of stalinism, and its final public expose in the late fifties the left began to die (despite the sixties radicalism, which actually reflects that to some degree) even the right began to counterattack. They undid the new deal. We must do more than do a new new deal. It won’t happen.
We must start over with a postmarxist upgrade that can restate the issues and which is clearly able to bypass the flaws in marxism that led to the failure of bolshevism…
