Democracy misdefined

July 7th, 2018 · No Comments

The history of democracy is saddled with a misdefined subject almost from the start. We can see how this generated a ‘revolution beyond democracy’ on the left that has left the whole subject schizophrenic and pitted against itself. The russian revolution’s antagonism against liberalism backfired and created a tend against democracy in the name of communism.
The english civil war shows the seminal moment before the terminology became fixed and the competing versions of an outcome where elements of communism coexisted with inchoate democratic semantics.
The marxist tendency, not surprisingly, ended up in a prejudice against parliaments given their absorption into capitalist dynamics. The whole game needs to start over with clear definitions and strategies that don’t outsmart themselves.

All this talk of ‘demcoracy’, as if we had one: we point to our archive of posts detailing the way to bring communism to liberalism and liberalism to communism.
The US talks a good game on the question but the reality is grimly far off from the declared ideal. Doing this requires ditching the confused marxist versions and their bolshevik abortions…
