is a good response to the supposed refutations of the 9/11 ‘conspiracy theories’. I have no agenda on this issue, and was delayed in my understanding of this question for several years after 9/11. In fact, I wrote an Amazon review on the day after 9/11 close to seeing through the coming cover story, but the rapid appearance of left denial confused me for several years. The problem was a simple set of book priorities and funds. When I finally decided to simply order some 9/11 books at Amazon, my confusion disappeared almost at once. You wake up in embarrassement at the way the propaganda fooled you.
I keep harping on this in the context of the OWS because the question has already crippled the left, crippled Chomsky, and others. Get clear on the issue. You don’t have to go the whole way: it is enough to see that the evidence points beyond the official story. You don’t have to buy into any theories after that: just the devastating evidence of covert complicity, whatever the particulars.
You can’t have a left movement that is still fooled on this question. As the OWs gets ambitious to, what, take on Congress, the price of admission will be joining the pack of lies here. Let’s see if this movement can survive this test.

According to this thinking, 9/11 was no attack by Islamic terrorists. Rather, the towers were detonated by an expertly covered-up collusion among Zionists and U.S. government operatives. Not so, as those who take an interest in conspiracy culture know well.

I am surprised that David Klinghoffer should invoke the notorious Popular Mechanics article, one of the biggest pieces of hype going on 9/11. ????

Surely the howlingly obvious issue (as pointed out here recently) should be the odd resemblance of the 9/11 conspiracy and the putative ‘Darwin conspiracy’ to maintain the Darwin paradigm. I am not confident altogether in this analogy, but there is no doubt that a partical conspiracy of another kind exists in the promotion of hard Darwinism.

In any case, Klinghoffer’s statements on 9/11 show a failure to read the literature of the various 9/11 exposes, from rational scientific sources. And to really examine the evidence. This post by Klinghoffer is an embarrassement, and the result of some kind of agenda.

I am surprised that Alexander Cockburn is still a skeptic on the 9/11 conspiracies. The plain fact of the matter is that the so-called conspiracists have been more than vindicated. In fact, looking at the evidence assembled, e.g. in the works of David Ray Griffin, it is pretty hard to maintain the kind of position Cockburn still defends.

The simple facts of the case are that, just as an example, the standard claims for the Twin Towers collapse are riddled with fallacies, if not outright deceptions, and make no sense whatever as science. So I think that Cockburn and the left need to be wary of letting this issue slip through their fingers.

I think that the way to proceed here is to ask people if they have studied the evidence 9/11 was an inside job, starting with careful studies, e.g. by David Ray Griffin, of the contradictions in the claims for the destruction of the twin towers. The official account is clearly pseudo-scientific and can’t stand scrutiny. For example, jet fuel is/was unable to melt the frames of the towers enough to make them fall down. Jet fuel can’t even reach the minimum temperature, let alone stay there for many hours. Many sckyscrapers less thorougly built than the twins have last thrown infernos of fire enduing over many hours without falling. Modern skyscapers, especially the twins, just don’t behave the way they were said to by the defenders of the official account.
Once you see that the evidence is against the official account, you can then proceed to some of the other issues. But the point is that there is no real debate: there is only the official version, and its cover story.

The news that OBL has been killed should raise immediate suspicions of still more government deception.
There are, however, two separate issues: the 9/11 nexus and its conspiracies (and theories thereof) and the issue of OBL, dead or alive, now almost certainly dead. David Ray Griffin wrote a book about this, but remained non-committal. His more important work on the 9/11 conspiracies needs to remain independent of this other issue about OBL. It may well be that Bin Laden was in fact killed as the government claims. But suspicion is chronic on this question. So many lies have been told already that if they told the truth we would have hard time believing them.
The problem here is that there is such a confusing record of faked evidence with OBL that this episode now remains suspect. Fake videos are not the least of it.

So when we read that OBL was buried at sea, and that is that, the suspicon meter goes into the red zone. Hey, wait a minute, what’s the benefit here? Obama’s reelection? Refiring the patriotic mania of yore?

In the final analysis this is a distraction from the real issue: the public news machine in overdrive promotes all the 9/11 cliches: the endless lies told by the government in the suspected false flag operation of 9/11 as a whole.

In any case, the issue of OBL is not the main one, and is almost irrelevant. The real issue is the crimes against the American people by the 9/11 conspirators, so far able to get off scot free. A further issue now is whether the president, Obama, is aware of what’s going on, or is a dupe still to this day?????

At a time of renewed terrorist attacks in the United States, this book can provide some useful background information that goes beyond the portraits given in the News Media as an antidote to stereotypical and jingoistic portraits of fanaticism pinned on the Islamic world. The portrait of Bin Laden as a ‘public enemy number one’ requires a reminder that he is a creature of the American Intelligence system in a milieu of the most sordid operations of American espionage, international finance, the Afghan war, promotion of Islamism (not the same as Islam) with its connections to global capital, etc… Seamy stuff. And an important caution at a moment when anger can spawn schemes of retaliation that could never match the reality powerful forces manipulate ad infinitum.

As I can see I was already suspicous, but couldn’t put the pieces together. Some were suspicious from Day 1.

Richard, I am an unemployed student of Greek who spent 40 years looking for a job. I was happily homeless for a decade plus. So if I see the Twin Towers collapsing my first unconsious reaction, soon smothered by normal ‘conscience’, is likely to have been a surprised hope, if not a sudden sick smile on my visage, that America might collapse and a revolution come to change my lot. No such luck, but that’s how hidden motives work, even as I was I am certain in shock at the victims.

The connection you don’t see is that I roamed the US riding freight trains and writing poetry. I once wrote a blank verse tragedy on the ‘fall of America’. It was not a very good piece, but the exercise was illuminating, and my instincts foretold what we now see, the destruction of American democracy. That the issue of tragedy should pop in my head on that day in September is therefore not surprising.

Now we know that the false flag op of the 9/11 conspriacy created by elements in the US dot.gov had total disinterest in the fate of the victims, cynically using the shock value from that to scare the public into a war on terror.

Nine years after the terrorist attacks of 2001, the United States is assembling a vast domestic intelligence apparatus to collect information about Americans, using the FBI, local police, state homeland security offices and military criminal investigators.

The system, by far the largest and most technologically sophisticated in the nation’s history, collects, stores and analyzes information about thousands of U.S. citizens and residents, many of whom have not been accused of any wrongdoing.

The government’s goal is to have every state and local law enforcement agency in the country feed information to Washington to buttress the work of the FBI, which is in charge of terrorism investigations in the United States.

Other democracies – Britain and Israel, to name two – are well acquainted with such domestic security measures.

But for the United States, the sum of these new activities represents a new level of governmental scrutiny.

This localized intelligence apparatus is part of a larger Top Secret America created since the attacks.

The left is strangely unable to confront the 9/11 issue. I am all for skeptical analysis, but it must be honest. This article doesn’t mention a single work by David Ray Griffin, and its devastating analysis of the facts.

The following, for example, is not an argument:

But World War II veteran William Hemmings was having none of it.

“If any of this were true, Cheney would be lynched from the Washington Monument in a minute,” Hemmings said. “A conspiracy supposedly this big could never be kept secret. Somebody would have stepped forward by now.”

This sounds plausible, but since we don’t know the details the inference doesn’t follow. People have, we suspect, stepped forward, but in such as way as to play it safe. Even a amateur acquaintance with spy movies will suggest what happens to squealers. It is not as if you could publish an article in the Times stating your position.

Whatever the case with the ‘new atheism’ in general, one of the traps, or else, deceptions, of the onset, viz. via Harris’ spiel, was the concealed hatred of Moslems, and the use of 9/11 to subtly feed that.

Truthers and Conspiracy Theory
This leftist response is puzzling: the basic 9/11 expose is more than good enough. And, in any case, it is not necessary to agree with any such theory in toto. Instead examine the evidence that is decisive: the statements here about WTC7 are puzzling. It is here more than anywhere else the evidence is decisive. The way the issue is attacked here shows the way it is threatening as evidence.

The real problem is that the Truthers’ conspiracy theory isn’t good enough. Notoriously, they never assemble the various “troubling questions” into a coherent whole, a coherent counter-theory with the explanatory power of the “official conspiracy theory.” In response to various troubling counter-questions that trouble their troubling questions, they typically plug up their ears, or reiterate the earlier troubling question, as if it had never been answered. For instance, in response to various lengthy and plausible explanations of why WTC7 collapsed due to being struck by flying debris, fires that weakened support members, etc., they retreat to the incredulity of “And WTC7 fell despite never having been struck by an airplane!” The Zarembka and MacGregor article, which is about as good as this stuff gets, does this.
